Our first National Park selection is... Mammoth Cave National Park!As the NPS Website puts it, Rolling hills, deep river valleys, and the world's longest known cave system. Mammoth Cave National Park is home to thousands of years of human history and a rich diversity of plant and animal life, earning it the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve. We are starting off with Mammoth Cave. Moving forward, each season, our young learners will get to choose the next national park to investigate. While I will offer topics of investigation, our homeschoolers will decide what they want to study and how they can express their ideas using art and building materials. in real time...What real life situations can the students dive into in real time? Cave mapping, ecosystems, wildlife conservation efforts and lots more is happening in real time. Mammoth Cave has several ecosystems including caves(obviously) forests and waterways. Bat populations in the caves has declined due to white nose syndrome, for example. As Leonardo Da Vinci studied the Bat's anatomy to learn about flight, we also will look deep into nature to understand our world and our own perspectives. How are scientists working to solve the problems in real time. I'm already excited for Synthetic Bat dissection just in time for Halloween!

We are so excited for our Fall Programs here at Painted Sprigs- We are a process art studio - but our programs are so much more than that. We cover things like:
What is our Homeschool Program? We have 2 age groups for our Homeschool Program. Ages 5-7 and 8-12. Rough schedule is Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each group meets once a week for a drop off workshop. Workshops are 2 hours. If the parent prefers to stay they are always welcome. Each parent will receive a PDF with summary of objectives, work and and images and notes made for the students. ObjectivesOur objective for Fall Homeschool Program is to nurture the child's unique interests and perspectives of the world around them and building connections. Everything is inter-related. We have a general outline for topics to present to the students. As we discuss them in our workshops, we encourage the children to decide what direction we will take the topics. Which brings us to our Long Project. The Long ProjectIn our program we will present a real world problem(past or present) and discuss possible solutions in our workshops. From the children's interest we will encourage experiments and research into methods, materials and practices to try out our ideas. RegistrationRegistration will be open in August and workshops begin after Labor Day. Sessions run for about 6 weeks with Holiday break around Halloween and Thanksgiving. (We have a Halloween Celebration for Homeschool Families during the break) Dates will be posted at Registration time. There will be Session 1 and Session 2 options for registration. Thank You for your Support!Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for staying curious, joining workshops and contributing to our growing community! We cant wait to see you at the studio!
